DEVELOPMENTS in already built-up areas that have seen rapid expansion over the years is always going to be a touchy subject.

While on one hand you will have the people who are used to the continual building, there are those who will always shout out that enough is enough.

Developers putting pressure on towns like Yate to take on more development is always going to be an uphill battle, as having seen such drastic expansion in recent decades, has given rise to many criticisms over infrastructure and sustainability, both in the long and short term.

But at the same time, it has to be made clear that houses are needed.

Populations continue to rise as people live longer, have children younger and more people come to the country and this is something that everyone needs to take a share in.

The hard bit then is deciding what is “fair”.

Throwing the cards down early, as the JSP has is a bridge towards fairness because it can now go out to the public for them to have their say.

At this point, it is important to bring something constructive to the process, instead of ranting about what is wrong with no solution, ultimately a redundant exercise.
