STAFF and students at a school in Yate are celebrating a bright new look, with a mural promoting the school’s ideals ready to welcome visitors.

The giant mural on the outside of the auditorium in Yate International Academy (YIA), designed by Bristol-based graffiti artist Zase, was completed at the end of August, thanks to a generous £1,000 donation from Yate Rotary Club.

The artwork depicts the Ridings Federation’s motto “Inspire” which stands for “Integrity, Nurture, Success, Pride, Innovation, Resilience and Excellence” as the path for the children, showing an infant with a building block, all the way to an adult demonstrating their artistic talent.

Paul Skipp, YIA head teacher, said: “For us, one of the things we wanted to depict are the steps through life, while telling a story of our values – to inspire the children from a young age.

“If possible, it would be great to continue the work around the auditorium. We might look into raising funds to complete it soon.

“We want to thank the Rotary Club for their generous donation towards supporting us and their continual support. We really appreciate it.”

The Rotary Club’s president, Roger Hooker, said they were “delighted to support the project and the school.”

He said: “We think it is a fantastic mural, evocative and very inspiring.”

“We love to support local community groups where we can, and when we first met Paul, the idea was born from the kids. It sounded like a great idea for them to be involved, to take ownership and watch it come to fruition.

“This is only the beginning and we wish the school success in continuing the work and completing it over the years.”
