POLICE investigating a burglary in Yate have recovered some of the stolen property, having made a number of arrests.

Keys for a BMW and a handbag containing cash, bank cards and other items were taken when thieves broke into the house in the early hours of Friday, October 7, before stealing the car.

The empty handbag, which was dumped by the thieves, was found later on by a neighbour.

The car was recovered by police the same day at around 5.30pm, after a witness reported seeing it being left in Highway, Yate, in suspicious circumstances.

Six people were been arrested on suspicion of burglary on the same day, five men aged 17, 18, 20, 21 and 22, and an 18-year-old woman, five of whom were later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A 22-year-old has been charged with burglary, taking a vehicle without consent and fraud by false representation and was due before Bristol Magistrates today.

Police have reminded householder to be alter and report suspicious behaviour, as well as to lock up and set an alarm when out and overnight.

They have also recommended hiding keys and handbag or wallet out of sight, and never to leave keys in the back of the door.

In the event of hearing a suspicious noise in the night, they have asked residents to check their property and call police on 999 should there be any sign of damage or anyone running away.
