OUTSTANDING work in Dodington and Yate has been recognised with five community projects being given the highest accolade at this year’s South West in Bloom awards.

The projects, which include the Wapley Bushes local nature reserve, Wapley Common Orchard for the Future, Lilliput Park conservation group and the Dodington allotments association, were all awarded “Outstanding” in the Neighbourhoods category. A testament to the work put in by the army of volunteers.

Meanwhile, a similar grade was awarded to Kingsgate Park in Yate.

“It is amazing to have that kind of recognition from such an important source,” said Dodington parish councillor Paul Hulbert

“They are all areas that have had volunteers bringing out their best for many years, and it is important to keep enthusiasm up.

“Getting these awards really helps to achieve that. Dodington Parish Council is very proud of all of all our dedicated volunteers.

“I would really like to thanks each and every person who has helped for their hard work, not only with the campaigns, but in the upkeep of these special areas.”

He added: “For those of us who went to the presentation in Taunton, it was useful to see what was being done by other groups in the South West, who have many great ideas – giving us some of our own for next year!”

Also offering praise to the Kingsgate Park project was Yate mayor Tony Davis.

He said: “Congratulations to all involved and particular thanks to the Friends of Kingsgate Park, Avon Wildlife Trust and the Estates Team at Yate Town Council who continue to work very hard to maintain such high standards in our wonderful Kingsgate Park.”
