HIGH WINDS from Storm Doris battering the South West have forced the closure of the eastbound carriageway of the M48 Severn Crossing.

The motorway is closed between junction 2 in Chepstow and junction 1 in Aust.

Meanwhile, one lane is closed on the westbound side to let traffic across, with high sided vehicles being turned away.

Highways England have reminded drivers to be aware of sudden gusts of wind, and give high-sided vehicles, caravans, motorbikes and bicycles plenty of space.

A spokesman said: "Recent figures have revealed that travelling too fast for the current conditions was identified as a factor in one-in-nine road deaths in Great Britain last year, with drivers failing to alter how they drive in response to changing conditions on the road."
