A LORRY that overturned on the M5 earlier today will not be recovered until 7pm this evening, when the full northbound carriageway will be closed.

Drivers planning to travel north on the motorway are advised to allow extra time for their journeys by Highways England.

The incident happened between junction 9 for Tewkesbury and junction 8 at Strensham and the M50 link.

Highways England is working hard to fully reopen the carriageway as soon as it safe to do so, with two lanes currently open past the scene.

Drivers are advised to follow signage on the approach to the lorry, which is expected to be recovered later this evening when the road is at its quietest.

The recovery will take place under a full northbound carriageway closure and is expected to take around four hours.

Duty operations manager, Colin Lowther said: “We are going to leave two lanes open past the scene to help keep traffic moving as we head into the evening peak.

“It will be a large operation to recover the lorry given the extent of the incident and so we will do this later tonight when traffic has eased in the area.”
