A UTILITY company is urging young people from South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire to apply for its graduate programme.

Gas emergency and pipeline service Wales & West Utilities will train new recruits in the company’s Newport headquarters, where they will begin a two-year graduate programme with view to obtaining Chartered Engineer status.

Graduates who have, or expect to have, a bachelors or masters degree of 2.2 or higher in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a degree course accredited by IMechE, IET or IGEM are invited to apply.

Accredited by both the Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the company’s two year programme has been running for nine years.

The new round of the graduate scheme opened shortly after Wales & West Utilities announced its intention to recruit 23 new apprentices to work on its operations across Wales and the South West of England.

Wales & West Utilities People & Engagement Director, Sarah Hopkins, said: “The opening of our graduate programme demonstrates our commitment to investing in our team so we have all the skills, confidence and innovative thinking to meet the challenges of the future and continue to keep our customers safe and warm.

“Our graduate programme will prepare the next generation of gas engineers and managers and give them all the skills they need to deliver for our customers’ whether working in an operational or a back office support role.

“We have a reputation for providing outstanding levels of customer service and we are counting on our graduates to help maintain these levels into the future.”

Anyone who thinks they have what it takes to help Wales & West Utilities keep the gas flowing should visit the company website for further information.
