SODBURY Town Council are calling for a working group of volunteers to help prepare for a major event in August 2018.
A medieval themed extravanganza has been proposed to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Royal Market Charter, which marks the birth of Chipping Sodbury as a market town.
The council are inviting people and organisations to attend a meeting on Monday, May 22 at 7pm at the town council office to begin preparations for the ambitious two day celebration.
A spokeswoman for Sodbury Town Council said: “We look forward to working together towards the celebration of this historical event.”
The 'Sodbury 800' birthday event is set to take place on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12.
Subject to funding, the celebration will include a medieval lunch, jousting tournament and old-fashioned animal market.
Cllr Philip Rumney is backing the plans for the market town and wants everybody in the town to take part.
He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole town together and explore our town’s heritage.
“I’m hoping that all of our schools, businesses and residents will put themselves forward to help pull off the medieval weekend."
