A BUS that serves Yate and the surrounding villages is set to return after being struck off in January.

In response to pressure from residents and politicians in the area, First Bus have reinstated a late 82 bus service that will run at the end of the day on Monday to Friday.

As of April 30, the last 82 service back from Southmead will be at 8.30pm instead of 7.15pm, calling at Cribbs Causeway at 8.45pm, Bristol Parkway Station at 9pm and reaching Yate at 9.26pm.

It is welcome news for many in the area, and particularly workers who use the service to travel home at night, according to Claire Young, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Thornbury and Yate.

She said: "Losing the last bus of the day back in January was a blow not just to those visiting relatives in hospital but also workers at the Mall, Cribbs Causeway.

“I am delighted the later bus has now been restored and will continue campaigning with bus users for another to get people home after the Mall has closed.

"I hope people will show their appreciation for this later journey by making use of it and that the recently announced management changes will make the service more reliable."
