April 1977
A COMPREHENSIVE report highlighting the main traffic hazards in Station Road, Yate, was set to be considered by councillors at a meeting.
The report was prepared by the town clerk, Mr. R. Hewetson, who told councillors: “What I have tried to do is to feature as many of the problems as possible in Station Road to bring forward proposals.”
THORNBURY Town Council appealed to local residents to stop exercising their dogs on areas where children play.
The appeal came after a member of the public complained to the council about dog fouling of the Oakleaze Road Play Area.
RESIDENTS in Frampton Cotterell won a protest against plans by Bristol Stadium Ltd. to use Sunbeam Nurseries, Bristol Road, to kennel 108 greyhounds.
In a 131 signature petition, the residents claimed the use would cause nuisance, highway hazards, vermin and flies.
The decision to refuse the plans was taken following a site inspection visit.
April 1987
A QUANTITY of cigarettes and alcohol was stolen from a Co-op in Winterbourne over the weekend.
Intruders also caused £1,000 worth of damage to offices in the building.
FOUR canaries worth £120 were stolen from a shed in the rear garden of a house in Camp View, Winterbourne Down, on Friday, April 24, 1987.
REPORTED road traffic accidents in and around Thornbury fell by 45 per cent during the first quarter of 1987.
Compared with a similar period in 1986, police dealt with only 35 accidents as opposed to 54 incidents in the previous year.
A WOMAN woke up to find thieves in her bedroom in Kingswood at 6am on Monday, April 20, 1987.
The intruders smashed a window to get into the semi-detached house and stole bank cards and a cheque book.
