MAINTENANCE work has been completed to fix a gas leak on a construction site in Patchway.

The damage to the gas network was caused by contractors laying a new water main.

Offices in Rolls Royce were evacuated on Monday after the leak was discovered on the site near Gipsy Patch Lane, with the road being closed while Wales and West Utilities engineers made repairs.

Fire crews from Thornbury and Patchway were also called out on Monday.

The road was partially opened to traffic on Tuesday and then fully opened yesterday lunchtime once the work was completed.

Ryan Horton, Wales and West Utilities operational manager for Bristol said: “We have been working to repair a leak on Gipsy Patch Lane in Bristol after contractors laying a new water main seriously damaged the gas network.

“This was a complex job due to the depth of the pipe, ground conditions in the area and the scale of the damage caused to the pipe.

“After working through the night our team has now completed the repair work. The holes we dug are now being filled in and we anticipate the road will get back to normal this evening.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank local people and road users for their patience. We know this work has been disruptive, but it was important that we repaired the leak as safely and as quickly as possible.

He added: “We would urge anyone who is planning to dig on private land or on the public highway to contact us in advance to find out where our pipes in the area are,” asking for anyone doing so to contact them 10 days before work starts.
