THE West Country accent is more likely to send a potential date running for the hills than any other.

It has officially been voted the “least sexy accent” for a second year running, with just 2 per cent of British men and 1 per cent of women finding the West Country lilt appealing.

Shockingly, as many as 20 percent of people said that they wouldn’t date someone with an unappealing accent.

On the other end of the table, women found the Scottish accent to be the sexiest, while men find an Irish woman's voice irresistible.

The results comes as part of a survey of people on lllicitEncounters, a UK dating website.

The site’s spokesman, Christian Grant, explained what he thought the people of the UK have against the West Country accent.

“Here we are again - another year, another disappointing result for the West Country," he said.

"Unfortunately, women tend to gravitate to accents that they associate with being manly.

“Take the Scottish for example; usually very deep, gruff, raw, and with tons of attractive Scottish celebrities to boot - Gerard Butler, David Tennant - the same can’t be said for the West Country.

"From a man’s perspective, it’s a little less clear. Irish women topped the tree, but they were followed by the posh and Geordie accents; it's hard to find a more eclectic mix."
