RESIDENTS in Dodington will have no shortage of things to do this summer thanks to a brand new 'what's on guide'.

Created by the parish council, "Discover Dodington" is a new initiative that brings together a wide range of local events into a new online guide and leaflet.

The programme has been delivered to every address in the parish, and copies can also be collected from the Tourist Information Centre in Chipping Sodbury or from the council itself.

Cllr Paul Hulbert, who put the programme together, said that he hopes to inspire residents to get active in their local community.

"People often say that there's not much happening here," he said.

"But between June and November this year, there are 35 special events, plus another seven events that run regularly every month.

“They include nature walks, talks, play schemes, sports training, community events and work sessions."

All the activities published in 'Discover Dodington' are free of charge, although there are age restrictions on some of them.

Some of the activities are also advertised on a first come, first served basis, however people can contact the Parish Council (01454 866546) to check availabilities.

Hannah Saunders, Dodington Parish Clerk, has praised the scheme.

She said: "We thought Discover Dodington would be a good way to promote and celebrate the wide variety of events that are being put on.

"We're hoping that we can get more people actively involved in our very lively community, especially families - there's something for everyone in this programme.

"The message is to get out and about, and discover what’s on in Dodington Parish and nearby areas."

About Dodington

The Parish of Dodington is a mixture of town and country.

The urban part covers the area between Shire Way and Rodford Way and the ‘Birds’ estates on either side of Heron Way, while the rural part runs from the railway line south to the M4 motorway and includes the hamlets of Codrington, Dodington and Wapley.
