NETWORK rail will be carrying out a major upgrade to a section of railway near Yate and Chipping Sodbury over the summer.
The four-week long project will take place throughout the day and night between August 19 and September 15.
A spokesman for Network Rail confirmed that some the work “will be noisy”, and thanked neighbours "in advance for bearing with us".
The work is intended to bring train users “quieter, more frequent and more reliable services” between London Paddington and Cardiff.
Some of the improvements set to be made include improving flood resilience at Chipping Sodbury sidings and installing electrification equipment in the Chipping Sodbury and Alderton tunnels.
Deliveries of materials to the worksites will be made by road, meaning some settlements will see an increase in traffic.
Several public drop-in meetings have been scheduled for July to allow residents to gain more information and ask questions.
For Yate residents, a meeting will take place at Ridgewood Community Centre from 4.30pm to 7pm on Tuesday, July 4.
