RESIDENTS have been enjoying the heatwave this week in parks, play areas and swimming pools around Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire.

Scorching temperatures reached highs of 32C in some parts of the two counties yesterday, in what has been described as the hottest day in the UK since 1990.

Thornbury and Yate both recorded temperatures hotter than Ibiza, with the two towns reaching 31.4C - four degrees more than the party island.

Temperatures in Dursley meanwhile hit 31.7C.

People struggling to cope in the heat will be relieved to learn that the sizzling temperature is set to cool as we approach the weekend.

Friday will see highs of 20C in the South West, and there is even a possibility of rain over the next couple of days.
