CHIPPING Sodbury High Street turned back the clock almost one hundred years yesterday as part of the town’s annual Classic Car Run.

Now in its 22nd year, the Rotary Club event saw 200 vintage vehicles pass through the town in a bid to raise money for local charities and good causes.

One of the oldest cars to take part this year was a 1925 Austin Clifton tourer, owned by Tim Hills of Westbury Park in Bristol.

However first off the mark on the day was Yate car owner Nicholas Milner, who drove his 1934 Chrysler CA Con Coupé through the town at 8.30am.

Mr Milner led the procession of cars through Broad Street before heading to the countryside to begin an 85-mile route.

The fleet of cars drove up towards Gloucestershire, taking in views of the Severn, before stopping for a pit stop and coffee in Dursley.

They then travelled on to Nailsworth, Minchinhampton and Tetbury before heading back to the Ridings Sports Ground in Chipping Sodbury for a welcome lunch and music from Lydney Town Band.

Mark Benstock, Rotarian and Co-Organiser of the Classic Car Run, told the Gazette that more people "than ever" came along to watch the cars.

“On previous years we’ve ended at different venues, but ending at the Ridings helps to make the event more of a special day for Chipping Sodbury,” he said.

“I think that we’ll seriously have to consider finishing here again next year”.
