RESIDENTS in South Gloucestershire were left perplexed last week after their recycling and food waste went uncollected.

South Gloucestershire Council say that the missed collections were a result of "hot weather" and recent "changes" to their waste removal system.

They have since issued an apology for the inconvenience caused, but urge residents to continue leaving out their recycling and food waste for collection.

A South Gloucestershire spokesman said: "We are sorry to those residents who have not had their recycling and food waste collected

"This was due to a combination of last week’s hot weather and operational changes which meant we needed to catch up on some of the missed collections, while continuing to carry out all of the other scheduled waste collections.

"Crews have been working additional hours to catch up, and the intention was that this could be completed over the weekend. However, we did have some issues where crews were unable to get to certain streets which prevented this.

"We do have crews carrying out additional collections, please continue to leave recycling and food waste out for collection and we will endeavour to collect this as soon as possible.

"Once again, we would like to apologise for the disruption this is causing."
