AN OPTICIANS in Chipping Sodbury who recently won a window display competition has donated their prize money to Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church.

Armstrong & North Opticians was presented with a £100 cheque to be given to their charity of choice by members of Chipping Sodbury Chamber of Commerce.

The money was awarded to the business for their winning entry at this year’s 'Window Display Competition' at the Chipping Sodbury Festival .

A NASA astronaut and space shuttles took the centre stage of the optician's window display, to tie in with the festival's 'Americana' theme.

The opticians gave gift vouchers to the children of St John’s Mead School, who helped to create the window display by making rockets.

The task of judging the 29 window displays that entered the competition was led by Vice Chair of the Chamber, Michelle Baden-Daintree, who was assisted by photographer Rich McDonough and artist Sarah Fortes, who painted the Harey Potter hare in the Cotswold Hare Trail.

Michelle Baden-Daintree, of Simpson Solicitors, said: “All the businesses demonstrated such enthusiasm and skills in making their window displays fit the theme of Americana.

“Judging was not an easy task but we all felt Armstrong & North deserved the 1st prize.

“We were impressed that the children of St John’s Mead School had helped with making the rockets.”
