PEOPLE respond to losing a loved one in very different ways.

While there’s no right or wrong way to grieve, a common response for some individuals is to want to do something.

Katie Lee, who lost her boyfriend Martin in a car accident on the B4058 in Frampton Cotterell, is one of those people. Her petition to add speed cameras to the road has the potential to save lives, and the Gazette is urging all local residents to sign it.

The best part about speed cameras is they actually work. Other options - such as lowering the speed limit - do not seem to carry the same threat of punishment.

It's all well and good telling young men to drive sensibly, but when has that ever worked?

No one thinks an accident will happen to them, so a more effective speeding deterrent is the prospect of a large fine and points on their licence. It shouldn’t be that way, but the sad truth is people tend to think they’re invincible.

Although Martin can no longer be saved, let’s do our best to make sure that no-one else is hurt.

And in the mean time - drive safely. Getting to your destination just a few minutes quicker is just not worth it.
