A YOUNG boy from Frampton Cotterell has raised over £2,000 for an autism charity after completing a golfing challenge.

Ethan Holway, 11, came up with the idea of completing 72 holes in one day to honour his younger siblings, Oakley, nine, and Luca, eight, who both have autism.

With the support of his dad Matt, Ethan started his fundraising event at 5.45am on Wednesday, July 12.

He completed all of the holes by himself and walked over 14 miles over the course of the day, finishing at 8.30pm in the evening.

Explaining his decision to undertake the challenge, Ethan said: “My brothers are very hard work as they can't communicate easily and don't understand too much.

“I wanted to help in some way and my favourite sport is golf.”

The youngster, who plays golf for the Kendleshire Golf Club and Gloucestershire County Under-14s, has since raised £2,070 via his online Just Giving page for The National Autistic Society and has an additional £300 in cash to add to the final amount.

His parents Nina, 42, and Matt, 40, told the Gazette that they were “incredibly proud” of their son.

“Ethan has had a lot to deal with over the years and has been very patient with everything,” said Matt.

“The understanding and support he gives his brothers is amazing.”

He added: "It was a long day but Ethan took it all in his stride and made every hole.

"It was a really emotional moment to watch him finish. A big crowd of people were waiting to applaud him, including some of the past captains of Kendleshire Golf Club."
