YOUNGSTERS at Iron Acton CEVC Primary School have an exciting new addition to their playground, thanks to the local community.

When the pupils returned after the summer holidays, they were delighted to see that brand new play equipment had been installed.

"They absolutely love it," said headteacher Mike Riches.

"It is proving to be so popular that we've had to make a rota for when all the different classes get to use it."

Mr Riches noticed that the equipment could do with an upgrade last year.

"The old equipment had been here for quite a while, and was very limited and not particularly challenging for the children," he said.

Following a successful application to the Big Lotto Fund, for £10,000, The Friends of Iron Acton School and Acton Aid then came together to make up the shortfall of £6,000.

"The new equipment is more physically challenging for the children," said Mr Riches.

"There are monkey bars, which are good for building up strength, and the height element is good for building confidence. It all looks really nice too."

Iron Acton CEVC Primary School is holding an open day on Tuesday, October 3 ant 1.30pm, for prospective pupils and parents to visit. Those in coming along should call the school on 01454 228322.
