THORNBURY toddler Ezzy Hodge has made the journey to America for the life-changing surgery that could see her take her first steps.

Three-year-old Ezzy was diagnosed with cerebral palsy last year, with parents Angela and Matt starting the “Ezzy’s Wish to Walk” campaign, raising £80,000 for the revolutionary surgery in the states.

Setting off at the end of last week with her parents and older brother Oliver, the toddler is expected to undergo the surgery tomorrow, with months of therapy set to follow.

But with a series of devastating hurricanes having edged closer and closer to the family’s final destination of Atlanta, Georgia, they were concerned that flights could have been cancelled.

“We were really worried that we would be flying into a hurricane, or even worse, the flight would be cancelled,” said Angela.

“But thankfully it passed and we were able to get out here without any problems.”

Pre-surgery therapy has also been having an effect, with Ezzy having recently been able to stand for more than 30 seconds unaided.

“Everything the doctors have been seeing has been very positive,” she said. “They have even said that rather than being able to walk, it won’t be long before she will run!

“We are so amazingly grateful to everyone for helping us on this journey and getting us out here. We can’t wait to see you all when we get back!”
