FORMAL identification of the victims of the M5 collision on Saturday will not be completed this week.

Four people died in the collision, which happened between J15 and 14 in South Gloucestershire.

One of the victims was named yesterday as 46-year-old Adrian Beaumont, from Bristol.

He was driving a Seat Leon, along with his 42-year-old partner and two children, aged 12 and 10.

At around 2.30pm on Saturday a Mercedes box van was driving southbound on the M5 between junctions 15 and 14 before crashing through the central reservation on the northbound carriageway.

Inspector Frazer Davey said that they have had more than 50 witnesses come forward with information about the tragic collision and investigations are ongoing.

“Three people remain in hospital and our thoughts are with them and their loved ones," he said.

“We’re still at the start of a lengthy and complex investigation to determine what happened.

“Since Saturday, we’ve had more than 50 witnesses come forward with information so it’ll take time to speak to all these people and take statements.

"We’d like to thank the public for their support and assistance.

“The examination of the vehicles also continues and we’re working closely with experts who will assist us in determining what caused this tragic collision.

“We’re keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already provided their details, in particular anyone who may have been travelling on the southbound carriageway who saw the white Mercedes box van immediately prior to the collision.”

Some witnesses of the incident have said that one of the lorry's tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control, however this has not been confirmed by the police.
