HUNDREDS headed for Chipping Sodbury High Street last weekend to enjoy the autumn Mop Fair.
Candy floss and fun fair rides were the order of the day, as the biannual event took over the centre of town.
Young and old alike took turns on the rides in High Street and Broad Street, which included a Ferris wheel, dodgems, a helter skelter slide and tea cups.
Councillor Andy Williams, chairman of the Markets Committee said: “All the feedback we’ve had about this year’s event has been really positive.
“We’ve acted on an issue with a generator, which has caused noise nuisance to one of our residents in previous years.
“This year it was located in a different position, and caused no problems this time.”
The event is steeped in tradition, having been established in the 12th century by William Crassus, founder of Chipping Sodbury. Taking its name from its original purpose, the Mop Fair started as a hiring event, where servants carried the tools of their trade to show that they were available for work.
