PUPILS at a primary school in Wickwar have been given a bright new study space after parents and teachers came together to transform the outdated library.
Alexander Hosea School’s library has been rejuvenated with new paint, carpet, furniture and books as part of around £2,700 worth of investment from the Parish Council, the Rotary Club and the Friends of AHS.
Allison Hall, the school’s business manager said: “The room was a bit of a disaster zone.
“It was very cluttered and served as part library, part computer suite and part classroom.
“Over the summer, teaching assistant Esra Ward and parent Pam Hasson cleared the unwanted furniture and ageing books, and gave it a lick of paint.
“And parent Rachel Hathaway, who is an illustrator, created a stunning mural on one of the walls.
“It features a tree and flying birds and says ‘Once upon a time’,” said Mrs Hall.
“Now it is a lovely, open plan space that the children will love to use.”
The library was officially opened by Chipping Sodbury Mayor Wendy Whittle last week.
Members of the Chipping Rotary Club, the Parish Council and Friends of Alexander Hosea were also in attendance.
The new room is now available for use by all of the school’s 194 pupils.
