FIREFIGHTERS raced to the M5 motorway in the early hours of this morning following reports of a lorry on fire.

Crews from Avonmouth and Pill were dispatched at 4.10am to the northbound carriageway between junction 18 for Avonmouth and junction 17 for Cribbs Causeway.

On arrival, the crews found that a small fire had broken out involving the breaks of a lorry, which had been put out prior to their arrival.

Firefighters carried out an inspection of the vehicle and allowed the breaks to cool before leaving the situation in the hands of the Highways Agency.
