A MAN has been arrested in Chipping Sodbury high street with what is suspected to be cocaine worth an estimated £1,000.

Chipping Sodbury-based police officers seized a quantity of white powder and cash, as well as a lock knife, after stopping a man in the town’s high street.

Neighbourhood PC Angharad Baynham and PCSO Sadie Bignell were on a plain clothed patrol in the town on foot on Friday, February 16 in response to community information about suspected drug supply.

They spotted a man and, working with patrol team PCs Nathan Sollis and Ben Perrin, he was stopped and searched.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply and possession of a bladed article in public.

He was later released under investigation pending further enquiries, including forensic tests on the seized substance.

Neighbourhood sergeant Terry Murphy said: “We will take action to tackle drug crime and the other offending that comes with it.

"We’re always grateful for any information about crime as it could be the evidence we’re looking for to enable us to target offenders.”
