CHIPPING Sodbury Mop Fair is set to take over the town as the biannual event returns this week.
The popular fair is being held on Broad Street on Friday, from 6pm, and on Saturday, from 2pm, offering the usual fairground rides, stalls and shows to the public.
Dating back to the 12th century, the Mop Fair takes its name from its original purpose, which was a hiring event, where servants carried the tools of their trade to show that they were available for work.
During the fair Broad Street will be closed to traffic, and the High Street will be closed from 5pm to 11pm on Friday and 1pm to 11pm on Saturday.
