MASKED men attacked a Southmead shopkeeper on Sunday night.

Two men wearing balaclavas entered Sai’s Bargains on Doncaster Road at around 9pm and attacked a member of staff with metal bars.

The victim, a man in his 30s, sustained a head wound which required hospital treatment in addition to substantial bruising to his arms and legs.

The victim resisted the assault and the offenders eventually fled the scene empty handed.

Avon and Somerset Police are now appealing for witnesses to the attack.

PC Chris Willis said: “The victim stood his ground valiantly and managed to frustrate the two offenders by blocking their access to the till.

“As part of our investigation into this incident we’d like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen two men acting suspiciously.

“We’re particularly keen to talk to a woman who was in the shop when the men entered.

“The customer is described as white, aged in her mid to late 60s, about 5ft tall of small build with grey hair. She had what appeared to be a medical dressing on the back of her left hand.”
