BRITAIN'S most famous ski jumper, Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards, will be joining the fun at a charity auction in Chipping Sodbury.

Organised by the town's Rotary Club, the sell-out Grand Charity Auction will be raising money for the Southmead Hospital £2 million Prostate Cancer Care Appeal.

“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men,” said the former Olympian.

“They are doing amazing work at Southmead and, if my presence at the auction draws attention to the appeal, that’s fine by me.”

Auctioneer Nick Cragg will be leading the bidding on the evening.

He said: “We have a full house, so I want to make it a fun evening for everyone concerned.

"There are some fabulous lots on offer, from vouchers for local attractions to wine tasting, golf and luxury meals.

"There are also more unusual items, such as a tour of Rolls Royce with lunch, a flying lesson, a chauffeur to take you to your holiday airport, a week at a farmhouse in France, and champagne and flutes donated by His Royal Highness Prince Charles.”

The Grand Charity Auction, which includes a Sausage and Mash Supper takes place at the town hall on Friday, May 4 and begins at 7.30pm.

“With over fifty lots, there’s always a chance of bargains,” said Eddie.

“I’m looking forward to joining everyone for a great evening.”
