WHAT a fantastic event Chipping Sodbury’s Visually Impaired (VI) Parkrun Take-Over was.

The Saturday morning run saw those with low or no vision being offered the option of a sighted guide runner, attached via rope.

It was a record breaking Parkrun, with 12 VI runners taking part.

Kerry Casson, who lost her sight at the age of 25, completed the track dressed as super hero Batgirl.

She describes the experience of running with a guide as “incredibly liberating”.

She adds that: “When you run with a guide, it allows you to run freely, knowing that the person next to you is watching the road ahead for you.

“That feeling of freedom and accomplishment is addictive.”

As well as being a great activity to take part in, it is hoped that the event will have repercussions in the future, by helping to raise awareness of visually impaired sport for everyone.

We look forward to watching this excellent event continue and grow.
