IN JUST under two months, hundreds of people will spend 24 hours walking or running around a track in Yate in aid of Cancer Research.

Yate Relay has been running since 2006 and has raised over £110,000 in the last two years alone.

And on July 7 and 8, teams of up to 16 people will walk or run in turns at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex for 24 hours, with round-the-clock entertainment taking place alongside.

Throughout the event, there are visits from special guests and charitable donations of food and drink from local suppliers are available.

Last year saw 35 teams and 500 participants raise a whopping £60,000.

The team members also run Cancer Research charity events throughout the year, the proceeds of which are then donated at the Relay.

Beverley Sadier, the event co-chair has praised the community for its contribution towards the charity fundraiser.

“We couldn’t put on Yate Relay For Life without the support from the local business community, we appreciate all the help and support they give us,” she said.

Fellow co-chair Liam Craddock has been involved in the Relay for many years, and said he is pleased with how the event is growing.

“Our fundraising teams are so committed, I am blown away with their dedication," he said.

"In just the last two weeks they have raised nearly £5,000.

“It is really nice to see everyone pulling together, and hopefully we will soon see Yate hitting our 13 years target of half a million.”

Tis year's event runs from July 7 to July 8, from 12pm to 12pm.
