FOLLOWING the devastating fire in Yate last week, it is inspiring to see the community coming together to support those affected by it.

The families involved have had their lives completely turned upside down.

Four houses were ruined, with one totally gutted.

And one of the victims is now homeless and has lost everything.

But neighbours of those caught up in the blaze were on the spot to help right from the start.

As the fire first broke out in a first floor bedroom, a woman found herself trapped.

The emergency services gave her advice, over the phone, about what to do until help arrived.

But it was the woman’s neighbours who managed to get her out of the house, before the fire brigade arrived.

And now the street’s residents, and the wider community, are rallying round, doing what they can to help.

The expression of support and community spirit is impressive and will hopefully be a source of comfort to all those affected.
