THE MEMBERS of Chipping Sodbury WI were entertained by an extremely entertaining talk on body language.

Body language is a type of nonverbal communication in which behaviour, as opposed to words are used to convey information.

Our members can now look at our husbands and partners and when we ask the question “does my bum look big in this” we know how to read their behaviour to see if it matches the words coming out of their mouths.

I do hope this new found knowledge does not lead to any arguments in the ladies clothing stores.

Next month’s talk is scheduled to be “Butterfly Space”.

Also next month will see the WI’s AGM this time being held nearer home in Cardiff.

The WI link delegates will be voting on behalf of local WI’s, for or against this year’s resolution which is to recognise the importance of parity between mental health and physical health and to take action to make it as acceptable to talk about mental health issues as much as physical issues.

The WI has a history in campaigning one of the first was The Bastardy Bill (later called the Children of Unmarried Parents Bill).

The bill was radical in its scope for it sought to remove the stigma of unmarried motherhood and place the burden of parental responsibility equally on both parents by compelling fathers to take some financial responsibility for their children born out of wedlock.

The initial bill was defeated in 1921, the WI pledged to campaign to “arouse interest” in this campaign and many provisions of the act were passed in 1923 and 1926.

Why not join us on June 7 at 7.30pm for our next meeting which is held at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall and bust the myth that the WI is all about Jam and Jerusalem.
