A ROAD in Wickwar is set to be closed for around two weeks whilst drainage works are carried out.

Wickwar Road, from a point 700 metres south of Frith Lane southwards for 50 metres, will be closed for drainage works from the July 23.

Although the works are likely to take just a fortnight, the road closure notice allows for the route to be shut for a maximum period of 18 months.

However, a spokesman for South Gloucestershire Council confirmed that it will only be shut for approximately two weeks.

He said: "The legal order for the road closure gives us the opportunity to do it any time within the eighteen month period.

"Closure will go ahead on July 23 and it is anticipated to take two weeks to renew the defective culvert under the road."

Alternative suggested routes are: the unaffected part of Wickwar Road, Sodbury Road, High Street, The Downs, Bristol Road, Bagstone Road, Wotton Road, Yate Road, Iron Acton Way, Goose Green Way and Peg Hill.
