THE owner of a popular local estate agent is cycling the length of the UK for charity.

Mike Butters, co-owner of Milbury’s estate agents has taken on the challenge of Lands’ end to John O’ Groats, to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice Care.

The challenge has been taking place from June 14th, and so far Mike has raised over £2,500 for Dorothy House.

Mike was in the saddle, embarking on the next stage of his journey, but his wife Sally revealed how happy everyone is of their achievements so far, “We are really proud, it is a really big challenge but it is going well.

“Mike is loving it, seeing areas of Britain that he never would have done, being on the bike and the challenge itself. I think that something like this can really be life changing for someone.”

It has been a rocky build up to the challenge that may have put the ride itself in doubt. Mike was knocked off his bike just 5 weeks ago in an incident which left him with fractured ribs, his partner on the ride Stuart Robertson has also had steroid injections in his back.

The aim for Mike was to raise enough money to fund Dorothy House Hospice for a whole day, a target that Sally says would be really nice to contribute to a cause that is close to the family's hearts.

“They really looked after my dad when he was there, and it is something that we want to make sure other people have the access to.

“Although they do receive some NHS funding, large amounts comes from charitable donations. The cost of running the House is £7000 for a day, he would really like to meet that total.

“If all goes according to plan, we are expecting them to finish next Tuesday or Wednesday. We are all just so proud of what they have done so far.”

Stuart, another resident of Chipping Sodbury and the other cyclist on the challenge, is raising money for Cancer Research UK at fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/stuarts-giving-page-46.
