HAWKESBURY Show pulled in the crowds despite a stormy afternoon.

The agricultural show, in its 125th year, took place last Saturday, August 25 at the Hawkesbury Upton village hall and recreation ground.

Despite a sunny start, downpours forced the crowds indoors for much of the festival, as they took refuge from the rain in the village hall, beer tent and marquee.

However this didn’t put a dampener on events, which all went ahead as planned, including the carnival parade, deer roast and ‘wild west’ and BMX displays.

Organisers said the show had been a great success despite the rain.

Show secretary Vicky Rispin said: "We have never closed in 120 years, never for wars, whatever the weather. That’s our promise.

"Everything that was planned went ahead. A few cars needed pushing out, as it got a bit muddy, but everyone helped. Everyone was wet but happy."

People enjoyed browsing stalls selling everything from crafts to baked goods, as well as the beer tent, and the large produce marquee showcasing the region’s finest fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Show organisers said attendance had been good, possibly due to better advertising and the cancellation of the Berkeley Show this year.
