THORNBURY’S community radio station has been awarded grant money to engage more of the town’s younger members in the project.
The £5,500 grant was given to Thornbury FM by media company GCAP and will go toward funding work aimed at encouraging volunteering in young people.
Called Are You Listening? the scheme already works with 10 to 14-year-olds enabling them to produce programmes.
This additional funding will pay for professional youth workers and the hire of special equipment to extend the scheme to include 16 to 25-year-olds.
The project aims to get young people into volunteering, by encouraging them to organise specific youth programming for Thornbury FM's twice-yearly broadcasts and for new online content.
Thornbury FM hopes to attract new young people to act as writers, presenters and technicians.
The station will be working with Castle and Marlwood Schools, Thornbury Youth Club, Thornbury Volunteer Centre and Thornbury Chamber of Commerce for its November broadcast.
