CHILDREN in Thornbury are being asked to combine poetic flair with green fingers this spring.
Thornbury FM in conjunction with Thornbury in Bloom are running a writing competition for school children in the town.
Children are being asked to write a short piece of prose or a poem, no longer than one side of A4, on the subject of Thornbury people.
This subject has been chosen because Thornbury FM’s next broadcast has a theme of Thornbury people and the forthcoming Britain in Bloom competition has a theme of local roots, encouraging people to consider how their community is made up and the importance of heritage.
The competition will be divided into school year categories, Key Stage One, years three and four, years five and six and years seven to nine.
First prize for each category will involve the winning authors going to the Thornbury FM studio and reading out their entry on air.
The winning entries will all be a compiled into a booklet later in the year.
Entries should have name of author, school, school year and a contact telephone number on the back.
Entries should be handed into Thornbury Garden Shop or to the Thornbury FM link teacher at the different schools.
The closing date for entries is Friday, April 3.
For more information contact Helen Harrison on 07966 034584.
