HUNDREDS of people turned out to enjoy the Alveston Flower and Craft Show at the weekend.
The annual event had a record number of entries with more than 500 people wanting to show off their prize winning fruit, vegetables and flowers.
This year’s event, which was held at the Jubilee Hall, was formally opened by local gardening celebrity Jekka McVicar Margaret Orchard, from the show’s committee, said: "It went very well. We had lots of people and the number of entries was up 50 percent on last year.
"Everyone who came seemed to have a very good time."
At this year’s event the flower and craft show was joined by members of the Alveston Community Forum who organised stalls and an arena on the village playing field.
As well as charity and craft stalls children from St Helen’s School showed off their Morris dancing and there were martial arts demonstrations.
Elaine Lee, secretary from the Alveston Community Forum, said: "The joint event worked very well with the two committees working well together. There was lots going on for people to enjoy, which is what people had asked for.
"As part of the parish plan residents asked for a large village event for the whole community and hopefully that is what we gave them."
It is not known how much the flower and craft show raised but all proceeds will go to local charities.
