Gloucester Premier: Dursley 6 Southmead 11

First published in Sport

DURSLEY could take lots of positives away from their defeat to high-flying Southmead.

With the conditions suiting the away team, their tight game worked well from the start, although Dursley’s notably strong defence held firm and their ability to break quickly got the numerous opportunities to score points, one finally taken by the boot of Grant Boucher.

This seemed to rally Southmead, who once again developed some momentum and seemed certain to cross the Dursley line, until Jack Row managed a sharp turnover and the ball was bundled into touch to leave the half time score at 3-0.

The second half saw a slight change in wind and Southmead managed this better.

Once again the Dursley defence was strong and all Southmead got to show for their sustained pressure were two penalties to push them into a narrow lead.

Dursley stuck to their task and managed to get themselves into the Southmead 22 despite the wind disadvantage, however, they were unlucky not to capitalise.

From the clearance Southmead again launched another raid into the Dursley half and when they were awarded a scrum ten metres from the Dursley line, they worked the short side well to score the first try of the game.

With just five minutes to find something to try and save the game, Dursley did not panic and pushed the ball deep into the Southmead half.

When they were awarded a penalty under the posts Boucher took the points and secured a losing bonus point.
