WOTTON signed off for 2012 with a thumping victory over second placed Wick at Thornbury on Saturday.

Wotton were first to settle, and their first foray into the Wick circle resulted in a goal for Sharron Bates, tapping in a gentle shot that made the defence and ‘keeper seem flat-footed. In the next 15 minutes Wotton extended their lead twice, first through Heather Reid creating a chance that was ably taken by player-of-the-match Anna Patteson, then through Lottie Aldridge, who set up Bates for her second.

The mercurial Becky Stockley created much of the pressure on the Wick defence, and she was unlucky not to score herself when two near-certain goals were stopped on the line by a desperate defence. One minute into the second half play-maker Jasmin George delivered a ball into the Wick circle where it was deflected and fell to Reid on the Wick post to make it four.

The home team seemed to lose their focus and with 15 minutes to go Wick got a goal back at a penalty corner before the game petered out.

Wotton are going from strength to strength and this was their sixth consecutive victory, scoring 14 goals and conceding only four.

TEN-PLAYER Wotton struggled to contain a very competent Yate side, but no-one could fault their spirit and workrate.

Elise Clements played extremely well, deputising in goal for the injured Jane Hardwick, while Tori Adams impressed in midfield alongside Jane Terry.
