CITY’S poor run of form continued on Saturday with another humiliating defeat, this time to Wolves at Ashton Gate.

The away side ran riot in a first half that saw the visitors take a 4-0 lead into the half time break. City could only respond late on through a well taken goal by Neil Danns but it was merely a consolation.

With City continuing to struggle badly, it is somewhat surprising that there hasn’t been more fan pressure on manager McInnes who has now been in charge for 14 months. In his 56 games as boss, City have won just 15 times. We have taken just 5 points from the last 39 available. These are dreadful statistics by anyone’s standards. In comparison, his predecessor Keith Millen got the boot for winning 18 of his 57 games as permanent manager of the club.

Whilst many fans are critical of McInnes tactics, team selections and signings there also seems to be a sense of acceptance that the core of our squad has been on the decline for several years and that a squeeze on the club’s wage budget has left us with a weaker squad. Since Steve Lansdown stepped down as chairman there is a lack of leadership coming from the board and there is a feeling that perhaps the club have taken their eye off first team matters in their pursuit of securing a new stadium at Ashton Vale.

McInnes’ arrival was met with approval from the fans, however he has simply not delivered. He failed to sign the right players in the summer. To still not have recruited a right sided centre back at this stage in the season, a player he said we needed, is simply unforgivable. He constantly tinkers with team selections and seems unable to motivate the players week in, week out.

McInnes hasn’t shown anything over his 14 month reign that makes me think he can turn our run of form around. We seem to be getting worse. I am quite convinced that McInnes will take us down and it will take a huge leap of faith by the board to keep him in charge for the rest of the season.

On Saturday we travel to Sheffield Wednesday for a relegation ‘six pointer’. The Championship new boys have really struggled since their promotion from League One last season and lie second bottom in the table on the same number of points as City. They’ve lost six games in a row but, if I was a betting man, I would bet that run will end on Saturday. It’s very difficult to be optimistic about City just now.
