BRISTOL ROVERS are looking for their sixth manager in three years after Mark McGhee was sacked last night.

McGhee replaced Paul Buckle in January, but has overseen a run of eight defeats in the last ten League Two games which leaves Rovers in the bottom two, with the 4-1 reverse at York City proving the final straw.

Since Paul Trollope was axed two years ago, Rovers have had five different managers but chairman Nick Higgs felt the club had no option but to make another change.

He said: “We had hoped that the appointment of Mark McGhee would give the club some stability and long term progress, but unfortunately that has not been the case.

“We have decided that we can no longer continue with the current situation and had to make the difficult decision to part company with Mark. We decided we had to act now before it was too late.”

Former Rovers and Bristol City striker Marcus Stewart has been installed as the early favourite for the job, closely followed by assistant manager Shaun North and Exeter City coach Andy Tilson, who is a former captain of the club.
