GOALKEEPER Dave Evans has left Slimbridge to join Southern League Division One South & West side Cirencester Town.

The 25-year-old made 142 appearances for the Swans and helped them finish in the top six of the Hellenic Premier Division in the last two seasons.

Cirencester manager Hughes admitted he had been tracking the highly-rated Evans ever since Matt Bath decided to retire earlier in the season.

“We asked Forest Green goalkeeping coach Kev Phillips about possible targets and he mentioned Evans," said Hughes.

“He has been at Slimbridge for some time and was reluctant to leave, but he has now decided he wanted to step up a level with us."

However, Evans was given a difficult introduction to Southern League football as Cirencester lost 6-1 at home to Bridgwater Town on Saturday.

Slimbridge's game at Wokingham and Emmbrook was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, causing them to lose further ground on league leaders Marlow, who are eight points ahead of them having played a game more after a 4-0 win at Kidlington.

They will attempt to play Hallen in a GFA Challenge Trophy third round tie at the third time of asking at Wisloe Road on Wednesday night (7.45pm).
