TWO goals in the first six minutes raised expectations of a goal feast in the local derby between Yate Town and Clevedon, but it never materialised.

Matt Groves put the home side ahead on two minutes when his shot deflected into the net off former Yate player Adie Adams.

However, Clevedon hit back just four minutes later when former Bristol City midfielder Alex Russell got on the end of Clayton Fortune’s pass and ran through to score.

Josh Dempsey kept out Fortune's effort, with Mike Bryant and Michael Meaker going close at the other end.

Nine minutes into the second half Jake Cox’s shot sailed over the Clevedon bar before Dempsey kept the visitors out again by tipping over Sam Teale’s header following a Russell corner.

Ben Murray was denied by a reaction save by Dempsey and Harley Purnell blasted wide for Yate, but neither side were able to find a winner.

The point lifted Yate two points off the bottom of the table and extended their unbeaten run to four games.

Yate are at home to Cinderford Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
