Bristol City fans' panel: Reaction to Championship wins over Ipswich and Watford

First published in Sport by

TWO tremendous results at Ashton Gate in the past week have given City a survival lifeline.

Now just four points adrift of safety and off the bottom of the league, we have a fighting chance of ensuring Championship football remains at Ashton Gate for next season.

There’s still an awful lot of hard work to be done but the early signs under O’Driscoll look good. The organisation of the side really stood out in both wins against Ipswich and Watford. Particularly in the Watford game, O’Driscoll was tactically spot on against the league’s in-form side.

We kept our first clean sheet of the season and Watford rarely threatened as our defence and midfield looked the best it has in a long while. As O’Driscoll himself pointed out after the game, to keep a clean sheet against a side that score for fun was ‘no fluke’.

New signing Brendan Moloney has slotted into the team well at right back. He reminds me of former player Bradley Orr, who was a ‘no nonsense’ full back. Fellow Irishman Cunningham is doing well at left back and Fontaine and Carey are finally looking solid in the middle, and this settled defence will be key for us from now until the end of the season.

On Saturday, City travel up to Blackburn Rovers (3pm) for the second time in a month, following our FA Cup exit there in early January. That day City turned in a very poor performance and hopefully the players will look to put that right on Saturday. Some added incentive is that a win for City would see us close the gap on Blackburn to just six points; which isn’t bad considering they are currently in 15th position. The more teams that get dragged into the relegation scrap, the better.
