YATE’S attempt to break a post-war club record have been put on hold after their Southern League Division One South & West clash against Bridgwater Town was postponed.
The Bluebells have won seven games in a row, which equals their previous best run and is their best in the Southern League, but they will now have to wait until Saturday to try and better it when they visit Cirencester Town.
Bridgwater’s pitch is still waterlogged after the huge amount of rain that hit that area recently, and tonight’s game was called off after an inspection was held earlier this afternoon.
Scott Wilson’s five goals in the 6-1 win over Winchester City has also been confirmed as a club record in the Southern League.
His exploits has led to admiring glances from Gloucester City boss Dave Mehew, but he insists he has no plans to take him back to the club.
Wilson played for the Tigers in Blue Square North last season and is still on a dual registration there.
Mehew said: “If I’m honest I would like to have a look at him, but I wouldn’t be able to offer Scott the money he’s currently on at Yate. But I’m sure he would want to play at the higher level.
“At the end of the day we will be mid-table, pushing for the top ten in our league, but Yate are pushing for the play-offs in that division so you have to be fair.”
