Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division: Slimbridge 3 Shrivenham 3

SLIMBRIDGE finally broke their goal drought, but were handicapped by some poor defending at Shrivenham.

The visitors held a thoroughly deserved two-goal advantage as the game moved into the last 20 minutes, but two goals in as many minutes rescued a point for the Swans.

Shrivenham took an early advantage. Tom Speers miscontrolled the ball in front of goal, and Lee Mills nipped in to nick the ball off him and steer home past Lee Martin after just six minutes.

Slimbridge’s best chance of an equaliser came just after the half-hour when Jamie Martin’s flick across goal managed to elude Marv Roberts, before bouncing off the knee of the incoming Will Wellon and rolling the wrong side of the post.

Josh Fowler doubled Shrivenham’s advantage on 38 minutes, when he beat the offside trap, and scored past Martin.

Ten minutes into the second half, Slimbridge finally got on the scoresheet, Speers making amends for his earlier error when he forced home a corner.

However, four minutes later, another defensive mix-up, this time between Martin and Will Wellon, allowed Fowler to notch his second and restore Shrivenham’s two goal cushion.

With 16 minutes remaining, the Swans were handed a lifeline when Dean Barnard was clipped in the box as he closed in on goal, and Marv Roberts stroked home the resulting penalty.

Two minutes later, the Swans were level. Speers picked up his second goal of the night with a neat run and shot down the left flank.

Despite Slmbridge pressure, they were unable to add to their tally, and Shrivenham returned east with a well earned point.
