OUR 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday was the most comfortable win seen at Ashton Gate for some time.

Forest, clearly affected by the current turmoil at the club, did create some good chances but once City went 2-0 up the visitors’ heads dropped and we played out the game in a very comfortable manner.

Organisation was again the key to victory and the defence did very well, with Fontaine and Nyatanga putting in impressive performances in the centre. Keeper Heaton made a couple of great saves when called upon, and it was an all-round determined team effort.

With 15 games remaining, by my reckoning we still need seven wins (and possibly a couple of draws) to be absolutely sure of survival. Fifty-three points or thereabouts should be enough.

Having won three of our five games under his reign so far, Sean O’Driscoll has given us a chance of survival. Under McInnes I am convinced we’d be as good as down by now. As it is, we are only three points from safety.

Now is the time for heroes. City have in the next week two away games, that both look extremely tough on paper, followed by a huge six-pointer next Saturday against fellow strugglers Barnsley at Ashton Gate.

But first up, City travel to Severnside rivals and table-toppers Cardiff City this Saturday (3pm) and will be backed by a sell-out away following of more than 2,000 supporters.

We will be boosted by the return of winger Albert Adomah from the African Cup of Nations and will look for a repeat of our tremendous 4-2 win over Cardiff back in August last year.

Three days later, on Tuesday, we visit Selhurst Park to take on Ian Holloway’s Crystal Palace (8pm). The Eagles have been flying high this season but since Holloway has been at the club they have been faltering, winning just two of their last 10 games. In addition, we inflicted a 4-1 defeat on them earlier in the season at Ashton Gate. Nevertheless, they’ve only lost once at home all season so another tough challenge awaits.

As we move into the final third of the season, one thing is for sure, as Sean O’Driscoll said when he joined the club “it’s going to be a rollercoaster ride.”
